A-Level tutoring in East Ham and Barking, led by Imperial College graduates

Quick answer

LCB offers small-group A-Level tutoring for Years 12–13 in Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and English. Groups of 3–5 meet at our Barking centre, a short trip from East Ham, or online. Our founders are Imperial College London graduates. Plans start at £72 a month for one lesson a week.

Who is A-Level tutoring for?

Our A-Level groups are for students in Year 12 and Year 13. Some need to close the gap from GCSE. Others need higher predicted grades for a competitive university course.

We teach Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and English. Students come from sixth forms across Barking, East Ham, Ilford and Dagenham, and online.

Why is A-Level such a big step up?

A-Level asks students to learn more content, faster, and apply it to unfamiliar problems. Many students who got 7s and 8s at GCSE find their first Year 12 tests a shock.

Maths is a common example. Algebra that felt optional at GCSE becomes essential. Read the jump from GCSE to A-Level Maths to see why.

In the sciences, students also need to understand the required practicals and explain their results. Our guides to Chemistry required practicals and the hardest A-Level Biology topics show where marks are often lost.

Who teaches the lessons?

LCB was founded by two Imperial College London graduates. Adam Lounis (MEng, Imperial) grew up in East London and got 3 A*s at A-Level. Dr Abdus Saboor Shalik (PhD, Imperial) leads our science teaching and is a published researcher.

All our tutors studied at top UK universities and are DBS checked. Your child has the same tutor every week. Meet them on our tutors page.

How do you help with predicted grades?

Predicted grades are set by your child's school, based on their work, tests and mocks. Better work during Year 12 is the most direct way to raise them.

We focus on the topics and question types that cost your child marks in school tests. We teach to your child's exam board. For example, Barking Abbey School lists Edexcel for A-Level Maths.

One parent, Tariq J. from Barking, told us: "Her A-Level predicted grades went from CCD to ABB." Read how A-Level predicted grades work for the full picture.

When should my child start, given UCAS deadlines?

The best time to start is early in Year 12, because predicted grades go on the UCAS application in Year 13.

According to UCAS, for 2027 entry the deadline for Oxford, Cambridge and most medicine, dentistry and veterinary courses is 15 October 2026 at 6pm. The equal consideration deadline for most other courses is 13 January 2027 at 6pm.

Stage What matters How we help
Year 12, autumn Settling into A-Level content Close GCSE gaps, build strong habits
Year 12, spring–summer Tests and mocks that shape predictions Topic mastery and exam practice
Year 13, autumn Predicted grades go on UCAS Keep standards high through the application
Year 13, spring–summer Final exams Past papers, timed practice, mark schemes

Can students resit A-Levels at your centre?

Yes, LCB is an approved exam centre in Barking. Students can sit GCSEs and A-Levels here, which helps if your child needs to resit a subject.

That means a student can be taught and sit the exam in the same building. See our exam centre page, or read resitting A-Levels as a private candidate in London.

How much does A-Level tutoring cost?

A-Level plans are monthly, with no contract and no hidden fees.

Questions parents ask

Do you teach both Pure and Applied A-Level Maths?
Yes. We cover pure maths plus the statistics and mechanics in your child's specification, following their exam board.
Can my child get help with just one subject?
Yes. The Essential plan is one lesson a week in one subject. Many students start there and add a subject later if needed.
Is group tutoring enough for A-Level?
For most students, yes. Groups are only 3 to 5 students, so the tutor can check each person's working and answer questions in every lesson.
Are female tutors available for A-Level?
Yes, female tutors are available on request. Mention it when you book your assessment.
