East Ham and Newham
Tutoring in East Ham: 11+, GCSE and A-Level
Quick answer
East Ham students can join LCB's small groups (3–5 students) at our Barking centre, one stop from East Ham on the District and Hammersmith & City lines, or learn live online. We teach 11+, GCSE and A-Level Maths, Science and English, and help students aim for Newham's selective sixth forms. Plans start at £52 a month.
How do East Ham students get to the LCB centre?
By Tube it is one stop. TfL's route data shows Barking as the next station after East Ham on both the District and Hammersmith & City lines.
Buses work too:
- 238 runs from Stratford through Plashet and East Ham Station to Barking Station (TfL 238 route data).
- 5 links Canning Town, Plaistow, Upton Park and Newham Town Hall with Barking (TfL 5 route data).
Our centre is at Roding House, Cambridge Rd, Barking IG11 8NL, a short walk from Barking station. For door-to-door times, use the TfL Journey Planner.
What do East Ham and Newham parents say?
Two Newham parents put it this way:
- "My son went from a grade 3 to a 7 in Maths." (Ayesha P., East Ham)
- "They actually teach to the exam board, not just general revision." (Fatima A., Canning Town, whose child went from a grade 5 to an 8 in Biology)

Which East Ham secondary schools do local children attend?
East Ham has some of Newham's strongest schools. This table shows East Ham schools from the 2025 GCSE ranking in the Newham Recorder.
| School | Where | 2025 Attainment 8 |
|---|---|---|
| Brampton Manor Academy | Roman Road, E6 | 59.7 |
| Plashet School (girls) | Plashet Grove, East Ham | 56.3 |
| Langdon Academy | Sussex Road, East Ham | 53.5 |
Addresses are from the government's school register for Brampton Manor, Plashet and Langdon. Plashet became Plashet, City of London Academy on 1 January 2026, and it is a girls' school for ages 11 to 16.
Our co-founder Adam Lounis grew up in East London and went to Brampton Manor Academy. He knows how hard students there work, and how much the next step matters.
What do Newham's selective sixth forms ask for?
High GCSE grades, often 7s and above. This is why many East Ham families start tutoring in Year 10, not in the spring of Year 11.
| Sixth form | Where | Published entry requirement |
|---|---|---|
| London Academy of Excellence | Stratford, E15 | At least eight GCSEs at grades 9–7, with grade 7 or above in Maths and English Language |
| Newham Collegiate Sixth Form | 326 Barking Road, East Ham | At least 62 points from the best 8 GCSEs (including EBacc subjects), with at least grade 7 in English Language and Maths |
| Brampton Manor sixth form | Roman Road, E6 | Check the school's admissions page for current requirements |
The Newham Collegiate address is from its government register entry. Both LAE and Newham Collegiate also set subject-specific grades, so read the full pages before choosing A-Levels.

Is there a grammar school option for East Ham children?
For some. The Redbridge 11+ common catchment area includes parts of Newham, but not all of it. Redbridge Council has a postcode map so you can check your address before you register in Year 5.
If you are outside the catchment, 11+ tutoring still gives a strong base in maths and reading for Year 7.
Who is LCB a good fit for in East Ham?
LCB suits East Ham students who want to move from a 4 or 5 to a 7, or who need 7s and 8s for a selective sixth form. It also suits A-Level students aiming for competitive universities. See Imperial, UCL and King's entry requirements.
Groups are 3–5 students, with the same tutor every week and a monthly progress report. Female tutors are available on request, and lessons work in person or online.

Questions parents ask
- When should my child start if they want a selective sixth form?
- Year 10 is a good time. It leaves more than a year to raise grades before the GCSE exams at the end of Year 11, and check each sixth form's website for its application dates.
- Do you teach students from Canning Town and Plaistow?
- Yes. The 5 bus links Canning Town and Plaistow with Barking, and the District line runs from Plaistow and Upton Park to Barking. Students can also join online.
- Can you help with the Newham Collegiate or LAE application itself?
- Our focus is raising GCSE grades in Maths, Science and English, which is what these sixth forms look at most. For application steps and dates, check each sixth form's own website.
